WESTMINSTER, Md. - The York College women’s cross country squad opened their 2010 season on the road Saturday morning at the annual Green Terror Cross Country Challenge hosted by McDaniel College.
Consisting of two different portions, a 5k and a 3k, the Spartans finished fourth overall, of the five teams that competed in both events, with 123 points.
In the 5k, senior standout Melody Parshall paced the Spartans as she placed sixth overall with a 20:56. She also ran the 3k and finished 12th overall, again leading the Green and White, notching a 12:38.
Sophomore Mandy Parshall followed in 12th place overall and 2nd on the team in the 5,000 meters. Parshall ran extremely well as she crossed the finish in 21:20.
Overall the Spartans finished third in the 11-team 5k division.
In the 3k, the Spartans would go on to take third out of nine squads. In addition to Melody Parshall’s 12th place time, sophomore Nicole Danielewicz finished 15th with a 12:57 – a quality time for her first meet with the Spartans.
Fellow sophomore Chelsea McCracken finished 18th overall, crossing the finish line a 13:06.
The Spartans next take to the course on Saturday, September 18, in their home opener at the Coach Achtzehn Classic in York. Start time from John Rudy Park is slated for 10:00 a.m.
