FREDERICK, MD – The York College women’s cross
country squad finished in third place at the 2009 Capital Athletic
Conference Championships Saturday afternoon in Frederick, Md. York
had a trio of Spartans garner top-20 finishes on the day.
In her final CAC Championship meet, senior standout Melody
Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) collected her third
all-conference accolade as she landed on the second-team after
taking ninth place. Parshall traversed the Heritage Farm Park
course in a time of 25:36.08. The 2007 CAC Rookie-of-the-Year,
Parshall nabbed first team accolades in each of first two years in
the Green and White, before finishing just two spots out of the
first-team this season.
Sophomore Corie Thompson (Ambler,
Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), the 2008 CAC Rookie-of-the-Year,
nabbed her second consecutive second-team all-league honor at
Saturday’s meet. Thompson came in 15th on the day, crossing
the finish line at 26:14.05 to capture the final all-league
place.
Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York), in just
her first conference championships, finished only one spot out of
the all-conference accolades. Wilson secured 16th for the Green and
White running a 26:18.54.
Claudia Hess (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) finished
in 21st for the Green and White, crossing the line at 26:56.25.
Rebecca Sandrik (Dallastown, Pa./University) also
collected a top-25 showing as she took 24th with a time of
27:16.99.
For the CAC Championships, Salisbury garnered first place as a
team while Mary Washington came in a close second. UMW’s
Sarah Dawes was named CAC Women’s Cross Country
Athlete-of-the-Year after winning today’s race in a time of
24:12.79, besting second place by over 30 seconds. Salisbury head
coach Jim Jones collects CAC Coach-of-the-Year honors while Jessie
Early captures the league’s Rookie-of-the-Year award after
taking 12th at 25:50.51.
The Spartans resume competition next Saturday as the Green and
White travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the NCAA Mideast Regionals. Meet
time is set for 11:00 am.
