TOWSON, MD – Melody Parshall’s (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) first-place time Saturday led the York College women’s cross country team to their third win of the season, their second in as many meets, at the Goucher Classic.
Parshall’s time of 25:40.19 topped second-place Hadley Couraud of host Goucher by over ten seconds. The senior’s first victory of the 2009 campaign gives Parshall her fifth top-ten finish of the season.
Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), the reigning Capital Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Year, nabbed fourth overall with a time of 26:12.85. The sophomore takes fourth for the second-straight race as she also captured fourth at last week’s Albright Invitational.
Freshman Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York), who is quickly becoming one of the top young runners in the conference, grabbed eighth for the Green and White. Wilson traveled the 6,000-meter course in 27:01.16 giving York a trio of top-ten performers.
The Spartans’ Claudia Hess (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) and Gabrielle Harbin (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) secured a pair of top-20 times. Hess’ 27:57.41 provided her with a 12th-place mark while Harbin’s 28:30.27 allowed her to come in 17th.
Overall, the Green and White averaged a meet-best 27:04.38 over one-minute better than second-place Coppin State University. York totaled a time of 2:15:21.88 for the Classic.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 17. York will travel to the Hood Open in Frederick, Md. at the Heritage Farm Park, the site of the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Championships that will take place on November 7.
