FREDERICK, MD - On a soggy afternoon in Frederick, Md., the York College women's cross country team ran to a solid third place finish at the Hood College Invitational. The Green and White just missed second as Penn State-Altoona edged the Spartans by a mere two points.
Senior Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) remains a consistent presence at the front of the York squad. Parshall tabbed yet another top finish for the Spartans, her fifth in as many invitationals this season, finishing sixth overall in the 110-participant event. She traversed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 25:46.28.
Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) continues to push Parshall however, as the sophomore standout finished one spot behind the senior. Thompson traveled the course at Heritage Farm Park, the site of the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference championships, in a 25:54.22 time.
The Spartans' third top-15 placement came from freshman Tuesday Wilson (York, Pa./Eastern York) who continues to be a quality runner for the Green and White in just her rookie season. Wilson crossed the line in 26:18.99 good for an eleventh place finish.
Junior Claudia Hess (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) nabbed 22nd for the Spartans at the Hood Invitational, registering a 27:21.56 over the 6,000 meters.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 24, as the Green and White travel to Towson, Md. for their annual dual with Goucher. York will look to continue their run of two straight victories over the Gophers as the meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
