Spartans Post Srong Showing at McDaniel's Green Terror Challenge
WESTMINSTER, MD – The York College women’s cross country squad traveled to Westminster, Md. Saturday to compete in McDaniel College’s Green Terror Challenge. The meet consisted of 3k and 5k segments with each team and runner registering times and placements.
Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled), the Capital Athletic Conference’s 2007 Rookie-of-the-Year, put on a strong performance for the Spartans in both the 3k and the 5k events. Parshall recorded a sixth-place 13:05.08 finish in the 3k while crossing the 5k line at 21:44.66 for an eighth-place spot.
Mary Riley (Brookeville, Md./Stone Ridge) also posted a pair of solid results at the Green Terror Challenge. The sophomore came in tenth in the 3k with a 14:06.52 as she was the Spartans second runner to cross the 3k mark. Riley then went on to secure 25th in the 5k with a time of 24:38:59.
Ally Montello (Adamstown, Md. /Urbana) was the third Spartan to cross the 3k line with a time of 14:09.66 as she finished 12th overall. Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) registered a 14th-place finish in the 5k portion clocking in at 23:28.16.
As a team, the Spartans finished second in the 3k event and fourth in the 5k.
York returns to action on Saturday, September 20, as they host the Spartan Invitational from nearby John Rudy Park. The meet is slated to begin at 10:30 am.
