YORK, PA - The York College women’s cross country squad finished third at Saturday’s Capital Athletic Conference championship meet at John Rudy Park in York. The Spartans finished with 99 total points. Mary Washington won the event with a team score of 27 while Salisbury finished second with 34 points. Hood (127 points) finished fourth, followed by Villa Julie (138 points), Marymount University (156 points), and Wesley (158 points) rounded out the seven team field. There were 51 participants in the race.
The Spartans were led by sophomore Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) as she finished fifth in the race with a time of 23:52.66. That allowed her to earn first-team All-CAC honors while she was also selected by the coaches as the CAC Rookie-of-the-Year.
Teammates Kristen Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Mary Riley (Brookeville, Md./Stone Ridge) finished next to each other as Hursey finished 22nd and Riley placed 23rd. Hursey’s time was 25:33.83 while Riley crossed the line in a time of 25:55.40.
The Spartans remaining three runners each recorded a top 35 finish. Tiffany Feudale (York, Pa./Spring Grove) placed 33rd with a time of 27:34.0. Sophomore Terah Bloemer (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) recorded a 34th place finish with a time of 27:42.04. Junior Corey Hawks (Aberdeen, Md./Harford Tech) crossed the line in 27:52.48, good for a 35th-place finish.
The Spartans will have selected members of the squad participate in next week’s NCAA Mid-East regional.
