Dan Mickle is in his third season as the head coach of the Spartan volleyball program.
In Mickle's second year, he led the Spartans to a 20-win season for just the second time in seven years. York posted a 20-9 record in 2018 advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament losing a tight match 3-2 to Christopher Newport. He coached three all-CAC performers with senior Alexis Harbold earning first-team honors while senior Brooke Krebs and junior Madyson Whitcomb both earned second-team accolades.
In Mickle's first season, he coached two second-team all-CAC performers. Mickle also led the Spartans to the CAC tournament in his first season of work.
Coach Mickle brings a wealth of experience to the Spartan program. His vast playing experience has spanned two decades with both the indoor and outdoor game. He has a very unique managing and coaching style that fits well with the players, coaches and parents of the program.
Currently, Mickle is entering into his 14th year with Red Land volleyball. His coaching experience also includes five years with the Harrisburg Area Community College men’s volleyball team, two years as coach and club director for Yorktowne Volleyball Club, 10 years with Soul Volleyball Club, three years coaching at the West Shore YMCA and six years coaching for the Keystone State Games.
Mickle was recently inducted into the inaugural class for the Hall of Fame at Harrisburg Area Community College. He was a four-time Mid-Penn Coach of the Year. In 2000, Mickle was a USAV Open Beach National Champion. He was also a USAV Robert Lindsay Award Recipient in 2008 and a gold medalist at the State games of America in 2009
Mickle has a multitude of playing experience. He was on the Harrisburg Area Community College team for two years. He competed on the USAV Adult team for 16 years, and the AVP/AVPNext team for two years. Mickle also competed on the Toyota Pro Beach team for 8 years. He was a 14-year member of the Keystone State Games and played in the State Games of America once.
A graduate of Red Land High School and Harrisburg Area Community College, Mickle is finishing up his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Coaching at California University of Pennsylvania.
Mickle resides in New Cumberland with his wife Teri and two daughters, Morgan and Lily.

Lance Ranck enters his third season as an assistant with the Spartans.
For the past five years, Ranck coached club volleyball for Yorktowne VBC, including as an assistant for the Yorktowne 18’s team that vaulted up the national rankings, reaching as high as No. 3. He was an assistant with the KRVA High Performance Boys 18u International team that captured KRVA’s first Gold Medal at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships.
Prior to that, Ranck, who began coaching in 1991, was an assistant at York Suburban High School for six years before taking over the reins at Dallastown High School for two years. Ranck was also on the Red Lion High School staff when they won the YAIAA and District 3 titles.

Brandy Shope is returning for her fifth season as an assistant for the Spartans
Shope graduated from York College in 2005 with a degree in Public Relations, after an illustrious career on the court. She was named to the All-CAC teams in 2003-’05, and was a captain during her final season at York.
She is the Vice President of Corporate Communications for HB McClure Company, and owns her own consulting firm I.C. Passion Consulting.
With a long-standing relationship with York College, Shope works closely with the College to offer internships to students as well as job opportunities, in addition to serving on the board for the Spartan Advance.
Brandy currently resides in West York, with her husband Wayne and her sons Jalen and Quinn.
