Tim Bonitz was named the new York College volleyball coach on March 18, 2015. Bonitz ascends to the head position after assisting former Spartan head coach Sue DuMars who retired from coaching at the end of the 2014 campaign. Bonitz had served as DuMars' assistant in each of the last two seasons.
Bonitz is excited about taking the reigns of the Spartan program.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected to lead York College's volleyball program. I am eager to get in the gym and start writing the next chapter of Spartan volleyball," says Bonitz. "I would like to thank Paul Saikia and the selection committee for entrusting me with the college's volleyball program. I would also like express my sincere gratitude and thanks to my predecessor Sue DuMars for building the program to where it is today and allowing me to join the York College family two years ago. Additionally, I would also like to thank former Susquehannock girls coach Rob Marrison and Susquehannock' s current athletic director, Chuck Abbott, for allowing a young man fresh out of college a chance to fall in love with coaching. Most importantly, I would like to acknowledge that I would not be coaching today without the love and support from my wife Jennie."
Bonitz is no stranger to the York County coaching scene. He has coached at Susquehannock High School since 2008 and served s head varsity boy's coach since 2010. He was responsible for all aspects of the Warrior program. He also served as the club director at the South York Volleyball Club from 2010 to 2012 prior to joining the Spartan coaching staff. Bonitz was responsible for club schedules, managing the budget and the day-to-day operations of the club. Bonitz most recently served as a coach for the Yorktowne Volleyball Club for the past two years.
Bonitz brings extensive management experience to the Spartan program. He is the Director of Sales and Marketing at York Barbell. He is responsible for the execution of the national and local sales and marketing plan. Bonitz is York Barbell's company liaison for public events and also the event coordinator for local, national, and international events. He also earned his masters degree from Millersville University in Sport Management.
Bonitz believes his experience will allow the Spartans to be successful on the floor.
"There will be challenges and hurdles along the way, but together as a team we will strive to overcome any obstacle and climb the mountain together," states Bonitz. "We will do this by fostering a competitive culture at the highest level through hard work and dedication to the sport and program. Our student athletes and staff will work hard to hold each other and ourselves accountable to the highest standards academically, athletically, and personally. We will strive to consistently produce our best effort and to be often pleased, but never satisfied."
