YORK, PA – The York College Spartan volleyball squad picked up a three-set win over Haverford College on Friday night in the final match of the first day of the 2018 York College Spartan Volleyball Invitational.

How It Happened:
• Despite the Spartans winning in three sets, all three sets were tightly contested.
• The first set featured a whooping 21 ties as neither team held more than a two-point lead until late in the set. With the set tied at 21, York won three straight points to take a 24-21 lead. The Fords captured the next point but York closed out the set with a point and a win.
• The second game was a similar story as there were seven ties with the final tie coming at 11-11. York scored the next four points to take a 15-11 lead. The Fords trimmed York's lead to one at 16-15 but York scored six of the next seven points in the set to push out to a six-point advantage. Haverford trimmed their deficit to three but that would be as close as they got as York secured the 25-21 win.
• Set three was a a little different as York raced out to a quick 5-1 lead. The Fords trimmed the York lead to one four times before they tied the game at 13. From that point on, the match tightened up significantly. There were six ties and the biggest lead was two points over the next nine points for both teams. With the set tied at 22, York captured the final three points to completed the hard earned sweep.
The Spartans hit over .200 for the second time this season … York racked up 14 block assists in the victory, a season high for the Green and White … senior Alexis Harbold is ranked second in the CAC in digs per game at 5.69 digs per set after getting 18 in her three sets on Friday night … junior Madyson Whitcomb leads the CAC in attack percentage as she is hitting .480 for the year … Whitcomb has 27 kills with three errors in 50 attempts in York's four matches … Whitcomb is also ranked seventh in the CAC in blocks per set at 0.69 … York is now 54-15 in the 13 years of the Spartan Invitational … York is 7-2 in the last three years of the tournament with two to play on Saturday … York is 2-1 in matches decided in three sets.
York returns to action on Saturday morning when they face Elizabethtown College in the 10 am match in the 2018 York College Spartan Volleyball Invitational. The Spartans will then face Johns Hopkins in a 2:00 pm contest.
