How It Happened:
• The Green Terror raced out to a 14-5 lead to start the opening set. The Spartans called timeout and started to chip away at the McDaniel lead. York ripped off a 9-2 run, cutting McDaniel's lead to two at 16-14. The Green Terror answered with a 5-0 spurt to push their lead back to seven at 21-14. York scored three straight but that was as close as they would get in dropping the first set 25-19.
• The second set was back and forth as neither team could gain control of the game. The set was tied six times with the final time being at 14. The Green Terror hit the Spartans with an 8-1 run to take a 22-15 lead. The Spartans responded by scoring six of the next seven points to cut the Green Terror lead to 23-21. Both teams alternated the final four points of the game as McDaniel took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 set win.
• The third set was again a back and forth affair early. There were eight ties in the first 28 points with the final tie coming again at 14-14. This time the Green Terror went on a 5-0 spurt to seize control. York cut the lead to four but that was as close as they got as the Green Terror finished off the match with a 25-18 set three win.
McDaniel extends their win streak against the Spartans to six as the last Spartan win over the Green Terror came on September 4, 2013 in Westminster when York recorded a 3-1 win … York lost in three sets for the first time this year … York had a season-low 31 kills in the match … for the third time this year, the Spartans had more service errors than aces with seven aces and 13 errors … York had a season-high four ball-handling errors … senior Cheyenne Altland had a pair of solo blocks for the Spartans, their first two solo blocks of the year.
York returns to action on Friday when they host Haverford in the opening round of the 2018 York College Invitational. The match is slated for an 8:00 pm start.
