ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College volleyball squad finished their stay at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic with a pair of games on Saturday in Elizabethtown.
The Spartans dropped a 3-1 decision to Lebanon Valley and then fell 3-0 in the final match of the tournament against Swarthmore.
The Spartans are now 4-10 overall. The scores against Lebanon Valley were 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, and 25-15. In the loss to Swarthmore, the Spartans fell by scores of 25-17, 25-9, 25-22.
Against Lebanon Valley, Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron), Kayla Gibbs (York, Pa./York Suburban), and Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) led the Spartan offense with seven kills each. Dorsey hit a team-high .438 as she did not commit an error in 16 attempts. Dorsey also had one solo block and seven block assists. Gibbs contributed seven digs for York.
Senior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) had 22 assists, seven service aces, nine digs, and three block assists for the Green and White. Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the Spartan defense with 14 digs.
In the Swarthmore match, Huston again paced the offense as the senior had 10 kills and a .381 attack percentage. She also had a team-high seven digs. Junior Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added eight kills for the Spartans.
Martinak had 21 assists, four digs, and a service ace for YCP.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday evening as they host Gettysburg College in a 7:30 pm contest. The match will be preceded by the York Suburban-Eastern York High School match slated for a 5:00 pm start at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
