ARLINGTON, VA – The York College volleyball team couldn't carry over the momentum of Thursday's big win against St. Mary's as the Marymount University Saints blanked the Spartans 3-0 on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference play in Arlington, VA.
The Spartans fall to 15-11 overall and 2-2 in the CAC while the Saints improve to 17-9 and 4-1 in the conference.
The game scores were 25-20, 25-12, and 25-16.
The Saints were led by Morgan McAlpin as she notched 14 kills as she hit .455 in the win. Emileigh Rettig added 11 kills for the Saints who doubled up the Spartans in kills, 40-20. Brianne Fitzpatrick handed out 33 assists for the Saints while Erin Allison led the defensive effort with a match-high 11 digs.
The Spartans to struggled to put the ball away all match long as they hit just .012 in the loss. Senior Brittany Hicks (Dover, Pa./York Catholic) and freshman Ijeoma Igwe (Windsor Mill, Md./Seton Keough) led the Spartans with five kills each. Junior Kristin Martinak (Hanover, Pa./South Western) handed out 13 assists while Hicks and Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) each notched nine digs for York.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, October 23 when they host Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time at Wolf Gymnasium is set for 7:00 pm.
