ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The York College women's volleyball squad fell 3-0 in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs at St. Mary's College on Thursday night.
The Spartans end the season with an overall record of 9-26 and a conference record of 1-5. The Seahawks improve to 21-8 overall and will travel to Marymount for the CAC semifinals Friday at 7:00 pm.
The scores were 25-10, 25-17 and 25-22.
The Spartan offense was led by senior Dani Mastroieni (Chalfont, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) as she had seven kills, one assist and five digs. Freshman Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added 10 digs and two kills. The Green and White were only able to tally 26 kills in the three-set match.
Freshman Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 28 assists, 10 digs and fives kills while senior Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) recorded 27 digs and added two assists.
The Seahawks were led on offense by Mandy Goodspeed with 10 kills. Dani Thorne tallied 15 assists and 16 digs.
York was only able to hit .066 while St. Mary's posted a .173 hitting percentage in the sweep.
The loss closes out the careers of seniors Mastroieni, Rineman and Melissa Patterson (Edgewater, Md./South River).
