Eastern Snaps Volleyball Streak on Friday

YORK, PA – The York College volleyball team saw a lengthy win streak come to an end on Friday night as a talented Eastern University Eagle squad downed the Spartans 3-0 in the second match for both teams on Friday night in the 7th Annual York College Volleyball Invitational in York.

The Eagles improve to 15-2 overall while the Spartans fall to 5-17. The Eagles won the match 25-10, 25-18, and 25-18.

The loss for York is the first in 14 Friday matches in the history of the tournament. York is now 22-4 all-time in their tournament, which began in 2007.

In the opening set, the Eagles rolled out to a 13-3 lead as the Spartans never really seemed to get their footing in the game. The Eagles kept building on the advantage as the final margin was 15 points.

In the second set, Eastern raced out to a 10-2 lead. The Eagle advantage stayed between six and seven points until York cut the lead to 15-11. Eastern just responded with a 5-1 spurt to push the lead back to eight. York pulled to within five at 22-17 but the Eagles scored three of the final four points of the match to secure the comfortable win.

The Spartans showed flashes in game three as they were in the set from the start. The set was tied at 13 but the Eagles ripped off a five-point run and York wouldn't get any closer than five the rest of the way.

Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 15 assists and had 11 digs for the double-double.
