Volleyball Drops Tough Match at FSU

FROSTBURG, MD – The York College Spartans dropped a 3-1 Capital Athletic Conference decision to Frostburg State University on Tuesday night in Frostburg, MD. The Bobcats won 24-26, 25-20, 26-24, and 25-21.

Frostburg State improves to 2-16 overall and 1-2 in the conference while the Spartans fall to 4-16 overall while they are also 1-2 in the league.

York was paced by senior Melissa Patterson (Edgewater, Md./South River) as York's middle hitter had 13 kills, two service aces and four block assists. She hit a team-high .333 as she had just four errors in 27 attempts.

Fellow senior Dani Mastroieni (Chalfont, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) was the other Spartan in double figures in kills with 10. Freshman Alison Dorsey (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) added nine kills and four block assists.

Freshman setter Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) had a solid contest with 37 assists, 20 digs, six kills, one service ace and a pair of block assists. Freshman Katherine Graziano (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) aided the Spartan defensive effort with a career-high 17 digs while senior libero Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic added 14 digs of her own.

Aime Petrides led the Bobcats with 10 kills while Maddie White added seven. The Frostburg defensive effort was superb as they recorded 90 digs as a team. Andrea Armstrong notched a match-high 23 digs while White added 20 digs of her own.

The Spartans recorded 188 attempts in the game, the second highest of the season and far and away their highest attempts in a four set match.

York returns to action Friday evening when they host the 2012 York College Volleyball Invitational. The Spartans face Centenary at 5:00 pm followed by a match against Eastern at 9:00 pm at Wolf Gymnasium.
