HOBOKEN, N.J. – The York College volleyball squad ended their stay at the Stevens Ducks Classic in Hoboken, N.J. with a pair of losses on Saturday. The Spartans fell to Buffalo State 3-1 and to Kean University 3-2.
The Spartans are now 2-12 overall while Buffalo State is 11-3 and Kean is 7-4.
In the opening match against the Bengals, the Spartans lost 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-16. Senior Dani Mastroieni (Chalfont, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) paced the York offense with 14 kills while she also had five digs and two block assists. Jessica Moyer (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) chipped in 10 kills and six digs. Freshman setter Allie Donahue (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) handed out 37 assists while she also had 11 digs. Senior Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led York's defensive effort with 15 digs while she also had three service aces.
Against Kean, the scores were 25-19, 19-25, 28-26, 17-25, and 15-8. The Spartans were led by senior Melissa Patterson (Edgewater, Md/South River) as she had 12 kills with just one error in 20 attempts for a robust .550 attack percentage. Mastroieni notched a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while freshman Emma Geisser (Derwood, Md./Magruder) was the third Spartan in double figures in kills with 10. She also had a double-double with a career-high 21 digs. Donahue continued her strong play with a career-high 40 assists while she also had a career-high 26 digs. Donahue also chipped in five kills. Rineman was strong as always on defense with 17 digs.
The Spartans return to Wolf Gymnasium on Tuesday night as they host Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference contest. Game time in York is set for 7:00 pm.
