Volleyball 2012 Schedule Announcement

YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad's 2012 schedule features a slate full of tough contests as the Spartans look to compete for a Capital Athletic Conference championship.

The schedule is short on home games but long on quality tournaments. York opens the season with a trip to the Cortland State Red Dragon Classic in Cortland, NY. The Spartans play four matches on August 31 and September 1.

The Spartans open their home schedule on September 5 when they host Franklin & Marshall in a non-conference contest.

York then takes to the road for two tournaments sandwiching a key conference match at Salisbury. The first tournament is at Dickinson College on September 7 & 8 and the second tournament is at Stevens Tech on September 14 & 15. The Spartans return to York to host Wesley on September 18.

A trip to the Elizabethtown College tournament follows on September 21 and 22 before the Green and White heads to Frostburg State on September 25.

The Spartans then host their annual York College Spartan Invitational on September 28 and 29 at Charles Wolf Gymnasium. The eight-team tournament features pool play on Friday followed by championship rounds on Saturday. The tournament features the Spartans, Eastern University, Rowan University, Centenary (NJ) College, Cortland State, FDU-Florham, Stevenson University, and Grove City College.

After the tournament, the Spartans remain at home to face Marymount in a conference tussle on October 3. The Green and White then embarks on a six match road swing before coming back to Wolf Gym to host Mary Washington on October 23.

The Spartans then conclude their regular season with a tri-match at Penn State-Altoona against the Lions and Pitt-Bradford.

The Capital Athletic Conference playoffs starts on Tuesday, October 30 with the opening round of the tournament. The semifinals will be held on November 1 followed by the championship game on November 3 at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The Spartans finished 16-17 in 2011 and must replace three starters including All-CAC outside hitter Heather Bucher. All-CAC libero Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic), outside hitter Jess Moyer (Reading, Pa./Holy Name), and sophomore middle hitter Katie Huston (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) headline the Spartan returning starters for 2012.
