Blog #4 - November 1, 2011
Since I last wrote a blog the team notched a pair of wins against Penn State Berks and Goucher on a very snowy Saturday. This was a day of mixed emotions for the team. We were happy in our two "W's" of the day but we were sad knowing this was our four seniors last home game at the GRUM (the seniors are: Jana Arentz, Julie Coombs, Cortni Rentzel, and Heather Bucher) These four girls had put so much into the program and their hard work and leadership over their past four years has definitely brought the program to a higher level of competition. We have formed bonds with them and there is definitely going to be "big shoes" to fill next year.
Now to talk about our games! The day started off for me by going to the store to print off pictures for the seniors scrap book gifts. The juniors got together before a team breakfast at Johnson Dining Hall (What a great place for team breakfast!!) to finalize that all the scrap booking was finished and the gifts were together! This weekend we had two recruits up so we spent breakfast getting to know them and telling them about the program and the school.
The team than headed for the gym after breakfast for our first game against Goucher at 1:00 pm. We won the game in three, but found ourselves in some tight spots throughout the game. Our energy level during this game was low and definitely needed to be raised by the time we took the court again at five. Next, we played Penn State Berks (thank goodness they made it due to the crazy snow storm we had on Saturday). The team had many highs in this match as we played together and capitalized on many of our plays. We had fun during the match, as it was officially the last home game for our seniors!
While it is true our seniors have likely played their last home game at the Grum, the team still has many games ahead of them as we are on track to take the CAC title this year! We play the first round of CAC's against Frostburg tonight at their home gym in Frostburg, MD. This is the team that we lost to last season in a hard-fought semifinal match. That loss has served as motivation through the year. We don't want to feel the way we felt leaving there last year. The team is anxious to play and are definitely ready to come home Tuesday with a win. And from there, anything is possible for this team. Hopefully the next blog will be talking about a magical CAC Tournament run.
