Volleyball Drops Three Set Decision to SMC

YORK, PA – The York College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Capital Athletic Conference decision to St. Mary's College on Thursday evening in York. The game scores were 25-18, 25-18, and 25-18. The Spartans fall to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the CAC while the Seahawks pick up their first conference win of the year, improving to 1-3 in the league and 4-12 overall.

All three sets were almost identical as they were close early in before the Seahawks pulled away to capture the wins.

The Seahawks were paced by the duo of Cecilia Blanc and Gena Hlavinka as they both registered eight kills. Blanc notched a team-high 18 digs while she also had a service aces and two block assists. Hlavinka hit a blistering .615 for the match as she did not have an error in 13 attempts. Rachel Wilson handed out 17 assists while Dani Thorne had 15 helpers for the Seahawks. Libero Bianca Livioco contributed 12 digs for the guests.

The Spartans were led by senior Heather Bucher had a team-high eight kills while she also had 11 digs, two assists, a service ace and two block assists. Freshman Katie Huston added six kills to the Spartan offense. Senior setter Cortni Rentzel distributed 23 assists while she also had seven digs. Junior libero Ashley Rineman recorded a match-high 20 digs for the Spartans.

York hit just .008 for the game as they had 26 kills and 25 errors in 124 attempts. Their attack percentage in the match was a season-low for York. St. Mary's hit a robust .230 for the match as they only had 12 errors in the contest.

The Spartans are not off until Wednesday night when they travel to the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. The match is slated for 7:00 pm at the brand new Anderson Center.
