SALISBURY, MD – The York College volleyball program dropped a pair of non-conference games at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans fell to Swarthmore 3-1 (25-10, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17) and to Haverford 3-2 (25-23, 25-8, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10). The Spartans have now dropped three straight as they stand at 6-6 for the season.
Against Swarthmore, who is 9-1 after their win over York, the Spartans were led by sophomore Jess Moyer as the outside hitter registered 10 kills while she also had 10 digs. Moyer finished the match with 11 points, pacing the Green and White. Senior Heather Bucher chipped in with eight kills and eight digs while fellow senior Julie Coombs contributed nine kills and a service ace for YCP. Senior Cortni Rentzel had 29 assists for York.
The Spartans hit just .095 for the match, their second straight sub-100 attack percentage match.
In the loss to Haverford, Coombs recorded 18 kills, two aces, 13 digs, and a block assist for a team-high 20.5 points. Coombs hit .316 as she had six errors in 38 attempts. Moyer contributed 11 kills while freshman Katie Huston chipped in with 10 kills. Bucher narrowly missed a triple-double as she had nine kills, 21 assists, and 17 digs for York. Rentzel had 28 assists and 10 digs while junior libero Ashley Rineman led York with a match-high 19 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Marymount University in a 7:00 pm Capital Athletic Conference match.
