Bullets Snap Spartan Win Streak

YORK, PA – The York College volleyball squad saw their three match win streak come to an end as Gettysburg College handed the Spartans a 3-0 setback in a Friday night non-conference match in York. The Bullets won 25-12, 25-18, 25-21.

Gettysburg is now 7-3 overall while the Spartans fall to 6-4.

The Bullets jumped out to big leads in all three games as they earned a bit of revenge after the Spartans swept them in Gettysburg last September. Game one saw the Bullets sprint out to a 7-1 lead and that lead would not fall below six the remainder of the first set. In the second set, Gettysburg forged the early lead only to have York tie the game at 11 and again at 13 before an 8-1 run gave the guest a 21-14 lead en route to the 25-18 win.

Game three was closer but again, York trailed 7-2 early. The Spartans tied the game at nine before the Bullets slowly forged ahead. The Spartans cut their deficit to two at 22-20 late but Gettysburg got three of the last four points to secure the match victory.

York hit a season-low .018 while the Bullet offense hummed to the tune of a .266 attack percentage. The Spartans had just two more kills (28) than errors (26) in the match. The Bullets did commit eight service errors to just one for York in the match.

Virginia Hogan led Gettysburg as the senior had nine kills and 10 digs. Katie McConville was outstanding for the Bullets as she had seven kills and no errors. McConville hit .412 for the match. Lizzy Kuhn had 26 assists while Rebecca Rubenstein had a team-high 17 digs.

Senior Julie Coombs led York with seven kills but she also had nine errors for YCP. Freshman Katie Huston hit .500 for the match with four kills and no errors in eight attempts. Senior Cortni Rentzel handed out 23 assists while she also had ten digs. Junior libero Ashley Rineman had a team-high 17 digs for York.

The Spartans get right back to action on Saturday as they travel to Salisbury University to face Haverford and Swarthmore at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
