Spartans Close Out the Regular Season with a 3-0 Victory

TOWSON, MD – The York College volleyball squad rolled to a 3-0 non-conference victory over Goucher College in the Spartans' 2010 regular season finale on Friday night in Towson, Md. The Spartans improve to 26-5 overall while the Gophers, a former CAC rival of the Green and White, fall to 7-19.

The Spartans won the match by scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-19.

The Spartans were paced by outside hitter Heather Bucher as the junior had eight kills, three digs, three assists, two aces, and a pair of block assists. Senior Alishia Waltermyer, junior Julie Coombs, and sophomore Dani Mastroieni each contributed seven kills to the Spartan offensive attack. Coombs led the Spartans with three service aces for the match.

Junior Cortni Rentzel distributed 24 assists in addition to collecting nine digs. Sophomore Ashley Rineman paced the Spartans' defensive effort with 14 digs while she also had a service ace.

The Spartans now begin the second season, as they will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Spartans must travel to fourth-seeded St. Mary's College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm match. The winner of that match advances to face the top seeded Frostburg State Bobcats in the tournament's semifinals on Thursday night at 7:00 pm in Frostburg, Md.
