HUNTINGDON, PA – The York College women’s volleyball squad dropped their second straight match at the Wid Guisler Invitational hosted by Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA. The Spartans fell in a hard-fought match against Carnegie Mellon University, 3-2 in Saturday’s opening match. The Spartans fall to 16-10 overall while the Tartans improve to 14-11.
The match scores were 25-18, 19-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-6.
The Spartans were paced by the tandem of Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) and Alysse Beshore (York, Pa./Northeastern). Waltermyer banged out a team-high 11 kills while she also had a block assist for 11.5 points. Beshore notched nine kills, two solo blocks, and three block assists for a team-high 12.5 points. Sophomore setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) had the double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs. Rentzel also had two block assists and a kill for the Green and White.
Freshman Ashley Rineman (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) led the defensive charge for the Spartans as she notched 16 digs while she also contributed three assists, a kill, and a service ace. Freshman Melissa Patterson (Edgewater, Md./South River) added five kills, two solo blocks, and four block assists for 9.0 points while Heather Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) finished the match with 8.5 points on four kills, three service aces, two assists, seven digs, and three block assists.
The Spartans hit just .073 for the match including .000 in the first second and -.150 in the fifth and deciding set.
The Green and White returns to action at 5:00 pm Saturday evening when they face #2 Juniata College in the final match of the tournament.
