Spartans "Dig Pink" for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
YORK, PA – The York College volleyball
team is doing their part this season in support of Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. The Spartans, who have joined with the Side-Out
Foundation’s “Dig Pink” campaign, will be raising
funds throughout the month and will culminate their efforts on
Wednesday, October 28, with a special pink match against Hood.
“We are thrilled to be connected to the ‘Dig
Pink’ campaign again this year,” Spartan head coach Sue
DuMars said. “The opportunity to do our part to support
breast cancer awareness is both an exciting and humbling
experience.”
This season, over 750 squads consisting of both college and high
school teams have joined the fund raising effort. The “Dig
Pink” rally has set a goal this year of raising $700,000 for
the fight against breast cancer.
“This is a tremendous goal, but one that is well worth the
effort,” DuMars said. “We definitely want to do our
part in reaching that mark.”
During last year’s campaign, the Spartans raised $2,000 in
donations for breast cancer research – a mark which the York
squad is striving to pass this season. Their efforts will culminate
at their final regular season home match of the year as the Green
and White will take on Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood College
on Wednesday, October 28, at 7:00 pm at York’s Grumbacher
Sport & Fitness Center. The Spartans will don pink warm up
jerseys as well as offer t-shirts for sale and distribute giveaways
in an effort to promote breast cancer awareness.
