Spartan Best Western Westgate Innvitational Kicks-Off Friday
YORK, PA - The York College volleyball team is
set to host the third annual Spartan Best Western Westgate
Invitational, which kicks off Friday, September 19. The two-day
tournament begins at 3:00 pm Friday and will culminate with the
championship game on Saturday afternoon as eight institutions will
vie for the title. The Spartans will be joined by Albright (2-6),
Arcadia (4-3), DeSales (7-5), Eastern (7-0), Lebanon Valley (10-1),
Montclair State (6-3), and Rowan (4-5).
Last season, the Spartans ran the table en route to the
Invitational title. York only dropped two games the entire
tournament going 15-2 against their five opponents.
To begin 2008, the green and white have posted a 6-7 mark
including wins in two of their last three matches. Junior outside
hitter Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove)
leads the Spartans with 107 kills as she has started each of
York’s 13 matches. Junior Jaclyn Davis (Cherry Hill,
N.J./Cherry Hill East) has 85 kills while junior libero
Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) has
posted a team-high 280 digs. The Spartans will look to ride the
strong play of this trio of juniors as they attempt to defend their
title.
