The second set was almost identical as the Eagles jumped out to a 5-2 lead. The Spartans drew to within one at 12-11 but Mary Washington ripped off a 9-4 spurt that pushed the lead to 21-15. Mary Washington closed out the game with a 4-1 run that left the Spartans down two sets to none.
The third set saw the Eagles put their foot on the Spartans’ throat as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead. The Spartans next trailed 24-22 but again forced a tie with consecutive points. The two teams traded points to get to 25 before the Eagles received a Spartan service error and then notched a kill to finish off the match.

Freshman Heather Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) handed out 15 assists while fellow freshman Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) added 14 assists of her own.
