
SELINSGROVE, PA-The York College women’s volleyball squad
split their two matches during the opening day of the 3rd Annual
Hampton Inn Crusader Classic hosted by Susquehanna University on
Friday. The Spartans defeated Rowan University 25-15, 23-25, 25-10,
and 25-23 in the opener. In the nightcap, Richard Stockton recorded
a 25-20, 25-15, and 25-23 victory over the green and white. York
now stands at 14-11 with the split.
In the win over the Profs, sophomore Alishia Waltermyer
(Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) led the offense as she had 15 kills
and hit .367 for the match. Freshman Heather Bucher
(Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) added nine kills, 12 digs, four
service aces, and one block as she recorded 14 points in the win.
Freshman setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) handed out 36 assists while she also had
10 digs for the double-double. Sophomore Alysse Beshore
(York, Pa./Northeastern), returning to the Spartan line up
after missing Wednesday’s match at Salisbury, added seven
kills and a block assist. Junior libero Amanda Clemens
(Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) led the defense with 24
digs.
In the loss to Richard Stockton, Waltermyer had six kills and hit
.312 for the match but that would not be enough for York. Freshman
Sierra Dell (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) led the
offense with seven kills while she also had a block solo and a
block assist. Bucher chipped in with six kills and 11 digs while
Rentzel handed out 13 assists. Junior Amanda Rouillard
(Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) led the Spartans with 14 assists.
Clemens recorded a squad-best 12 digs.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning when they face
the host Crusaders at 10:00 am. The Spartans then face Misericordia
in their second match on Saturday. The match against the Cougars
begins at 2:00 pm.
