
GRANTHAM, PA-The York College women’s volleyball squad
split a tri-meet at Messiah College on Saturday afternoon in
Grantham. The Spartans fell to Messiah 3-0 (23-25, 25-23, 25-21,
25-21) before bouncing back to defeat Montclair 3-1 (18-25, 25-21,
25-17, 25-12). The Spartans conclude their regular season with a
mark of 19-14.
In the loss to the Falcons, the Spartans were close in all four
sets against the Falcons, who improve to 18-6 with the win.
Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) led the
Spartans as she had nine kills, one solo block and five block
assists for a team-best 12.5 points in the match. Junior
Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) chipped in
with 11 kills, seven digs and a block assist for 11.5 points.
Freshman setter Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf,
Pa./Northeastern) handed out 18 assists while she also had
six digs. Junior setter Amanda Rouillard (Woodbine,
Md./Glenelg) added 15 helpers for the green and white.
Junior libero Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar
Crest) paced the Spartans defensive effort with 23 digs
while she also had two kills and one service ace. Freshman
Heather Bucher (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) added
eight kills, eight digs, and three assists.
In the nightcap against the Redhawks, the Spartans received a
stellar effort from freshman Julie Coombs (Leonardtown,
Md./Leonardtown) as she had 12 kills and 11 digs for a
team-high 12 points. Waltermyer added ten kills and three block
assists as she hit .364 for the match. Bucher had a double-double
with 21 assists and 18 digs while she also had five kills and three
blocks. Rentzel added 22 kills and 11 digs for a double-double of
her own. Clemens had 16 digs and a service ace while junior
Jess Smith (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic)
contributed 15 digs and a pair of service aces. Brough chipped in
with nine kills, eight digs and three block assists.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday night as they open the CAC
Tournament at Stevenson University. The match is slated to begin at
7:00 pm.
