Spartans Drop a Pair at Eastern Tri-Match
ST. DAVIDS, PA-The York College women’s
volleyball squad saw their humble three match win streak come to an
end as they dropped a pair of matches at the Eastern University
tri-meet on Saturday at Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. The
Spartans fell to the host Eagles 25-18, 25-20, and 25-16 before
losing to Widener 25-22, 25-21, and 25-11. The Spartans are now
17-13 overall while the Eastern Eagles are 25-1 and Widener is
In the loss to the Eagles, who are ranked 24th in the nation, the Spartans were paced by sophomore Alishia Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) as she had six kills, a service ace, and three blocks for a team-high nine points. Freshmen Sierra Dell (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) added four kills and two blocks while fellow freshman Julie Coombs (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) chipped in with four kills, a service ace and a block assist for 5.5 points. Freshman Cortni Rentzel (Mt. Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) handed out 11 assists while she also had seven digs. Junior setter Amanda Rouillard (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) contributed nine assists and six digs to the green and white. Junior libero Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) led the defense with 10 digs.
Against Widener, Dell paced the York offense as she had seven kills and hit .278 for the match. Dell also had a pair of block assists as she accumulated eight points for the match. Waltermyer added six kills in 10 attempts while she also had a service ace and a trio of block assists. Rentzel had 14 assists and four digs while Rouillard had 11 helpers and four digs. Clemens collected 12 digs while junior Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) had eight digs to go along with her five kills.
The Spartans conclude their home campaign on Wednesday night as they host Goucher College in a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm. The game will also serve as the Spartans’ “Dig for the Cure” night. The Spartans will wear special pink jerseys as they join with the American Cancer Society to help find a cure for breast cancer.
