YORK, PA - In the wake of the great news of placing a pair of Spartans on the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team, the York College volleyball team received yet another accolade after a stellar 30-6 campaign. Senior setter Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa./Delone Catholic) was selected as an ESPN The Magazine District II Academic All-American, earning a spot on the second team.
Hertz, who was also one of the Spartans to earn All-CAC first team honors, had a sensational senior campaign. Starting in each of York’s 36 matches, the captain was a model of consistency throughout the year. She distributed a team-leading and career-high 1,455 assists averaging 11.93 per game. Hertz paced the squad with 51 service aces while also chipping in 139 kills. Her tireless efforts on the floor catapulted the Spartans to their highest win total since 1991.
Not limiting her talents to the court, Hertz is also an excellent student who sports a sterling 3.89 grade point average as a biology major with a minor in chemistry.
“Katie has done a great job for us all four years,”
Spartan Head Coach Sue DuMars noted. “Her ability to balance
school and volleyball is simply outstanding.”
