ALBION, MICH- The York College volleyball team opened their 2007 fall break trip to Albion College with a 3-0 win over Rochester College (MI) in the opening round of the Albion College weekend quad meet. The Spartans won the match by scores of 30-17, 30-25, and 30-28. The Spartans improve to 20-5 with the victory while the Warriors fall to 18-10 for the campaign.
The Spartans were paced by sophomore Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) as she tallied a team-high 13 kills in addition to 17 digs for the double-double. Freshman Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) fashioned a solid match with 10 kills and a .368 attack percentage. Sophomore Casi Brough (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) was very good with eight kills and just one error in 20 attempts for a .350 attack percentage. Senior setter Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa./Delone Catholic) handed out 38 assists while she also had nine digs, two service aces, and a pair of kills. Senior Laura Krajewski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), playing in her home state for the first time in her college career, led the Spartans’ defensive charge with 24 digs.
The Spartans hit .156 as a team with 44 kills and 22 errors in 141 attempts.
York returns to action on Saturday morning when they face Olivet at 10:00 and host Albion at noon.
