Spartan Win Streak Ends with Pair of Losses at LVC

ANNVILLE, PA-The York College volleyball squad had a rough Saturday at the Lebanon Valley Invitational as the Spartans dropped both of their matches in five games. The Spartans began the day by falling to PSU-Altoona 26-30, 17-30, 30-24, 36-34, and 15-10 before Lebanon Valley downed the green and white 26-30, 30-21, 20-30, 30-28, and 15-11. York, which had it’s eight match win streak snapped in the opener, falls to 9-3 for the season.

In the PSU-Altoona match, the Spartans failed to close out the match in four as they had multiple match points before allowing the Lions to come back and take the fourth and fifth games. Freshman Alisha Waltermyer (Brogue, Pa. /Red Lion) led the offense with 19 kills and five block assists. Sophomore Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa. /Spring Grove) was the other Spartan in double figures with 16 kills while she also had 27 digs. Senior Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa. /Delone Catholic) recorded 60 assists, five kills, 15 digs, and four blocks for YCP. Senior Laura Krajewski (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) spearheaded the Spartan defensive effort with 27 digs from her libero position while senior Amy Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa. /Delone Catholic) added 14 digs and sophomore Jess Diaczun (York, Pa./York Suburban) collected a career-high 16 digs.

The Spartans then faced Lebanon Valley in their third match of the year. The Flying Dutchmen finally picked up a win against York after the Spartans won the first two meetings. Waltermyer banged home a career-high 22 kills with just four errors in 30 attempts for a blistering .600 attack percentage. Freshman Elizabeth Sempervive (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) and Schorner each had 14 kills while Schorner added 25 digs. Hertz recorded 62 assists and 26 digs for another double-double. Sophomore Amanda Clemens (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) chipped in with 11 kills while freshman Heather Toth (Longmont, Col./Niwot) added 10 kills of her own. Krajewski notched 21 digs for the Spartan defense.

The green and white will look to get back on track on Tuesday night when they travel to Villa Julie to face the Mustangs in a CAC contest. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
