YORK, PA- The York College women’s volleyball team continues to receive post-season accolades following their impressive 30-6 2007 campaign. Lindsay Schorner (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and Katie Hertz (Glenville, Pa./Delone Catholic) were recognized as All Mid-Atlantic Region performers by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Schorner garnered first-team honors for her impressive efforts in 2007. The honor comes in the wake of being named the Capital Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Year and earning conference first-team selection. An outside hitter, Schorner was a potent offensive weapon for the Spartans slamming home a team-leading 467 kills. Averaging 3.83 kills per game, her strong attacks proved difficult for many opponents to handle. Schorner was almost equally stellar on the defensive end, ranking second on the squad with 492 digs.
Hertz received an honorable mention selection as she caps her fantastic Spartan career. Hertz handed-out a career-high 1,455 assists and led the CAC with 11.93 assists per game en route to a first-team all-conference selection. The senior captain was a steady presence for the York side all season long starting all 36 matches. A solid all-around player, Hertz also led the Spartans with 51 service aces, chipped in 139 kills, and recorded 440 digs.
Although losing Hertz, and several other seniors to graduation
creates some holes in the Spartan line-up, the return of Schorner
and numerous other key players provides the foundation for a great
