Measley and DeBruin Earn Individual Wins at CAC Championships

SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's track and field squad fashioned a strong fourth place finish at the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference championships on Salisbury, Maryland on Friday and Saturday.

The Spartans totaled 115 points. Christopher Newport won the team title with 144 points while Salisbury was just two points behind in second place. Mary Washington (129 points) was third followed by York in fourth and Wesley (94 points) in fifth.

York had a pair of champions as senior Anne Measley was victorious in the 400 meter hurdles. Junior Alayna De Bruin led a sweep of the top four spots in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. De Bruin won her second consecutive title in the event while sophomore Rachel Banchiere was second to earn All-CAC honors. Junior Jess DelViscio was the fourth Spartan to earn All-CAC honors as she was second in the 1,500 meter run.

CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES

The Spartans had a number of strong performances at the championships … senior Anne Measley won the 400 meter hurdle championships with a new school record time of 1:05.58 … sophomore Gabby Emeigh notched a new PR in the javelin with a throw of 35.13 meters / 115' 3" as she finished third … freshman Sydney Fitzwater set a new career best in the discus with a best throw of 38.64 meters / 126' 9" … York had a trio of of pole vaulters set new PR's as Katie Krutz (3.27 meters), Olivia Miller (3.07 meters), and Emma Barrett (2.77 meters) all had strong performances … Rachel Banchiere (12:05.35), Jilly Wagner (12:26.27) and Steph Becker (12:35.80) all set new personal standards in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as they finished second, third, and fourth in the event … senior Kim Massa (44:47.27), Abby Sykes (43:43.79) and Nicole Wasserleben (46:09.60) each set new PR's in the 10,000 meter run … sophomore Emily Clark set a new pair of personal bests in the triple jump (10.23 meters) and the high jump (1.50 meters).

A number of selected Spartans will continue their season on May 14 at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet. The rest of the Spartan squad will turn their sights on preparing for the 2018-19 campaign.
