Spartan Women Have a Strong Showing at CAC Championships

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College women's track & field squad competed in the 2016 Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.

The Spartans finished fifth of seven teams with 61 points. York was a mere two points out of four place (Mary Washington) and 15 points back of third place Salisbury (76 points). Christopher Newport University won the team championship with 146 points while Wesley finished second with 116 points. Frostburg State (24 points) and Harrisburg (10 points) rounded out the seven team field.

York received second place finishes from Alicia Dillman in the 5K, Kacey Fogelsanger in the 3K, the distance medley relay squad of Jess Delviscio, Jenna Roberts, Shannon Kuseryk, and Alayna DeBruin, and also the 4x400 meter relay squad of Jada Griffin-Howard, Jenna Roberts, Emily Plante, and Emily Cronise.  

York went 2-3-4 in the 5K as Kathleen Cannon placed third followed by Kristi Wandzilak. The Spartans also went 2-3-4-5 in the 3K. Roberts finished third followed by Dillman and Cannon. Griffin-Howard also set a new school record in the 400 meter dash.

What's Next:

The Spartans are now done for the 2016 Indoor season. The Spartans return to action on Saturday, March 19 when they travel to Elizabethtown for the Blue Jay Opener. York will host the York College Twilight Invitational on Wednesday, March 23 at the Grumbacher Center.
