ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College women's track and field squad opened up the outdoor season with a partial squad at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday in Elizabethtown, PA.
The Spartans finished fifth in the standings with 69 points but that doesn't give proper credit to the performance of the squad in the outdoor opener.
Freshman Emily Cronise (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) recorded a pair of strong finishes for the Green and White. She placed second in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:56.77. Cronise recorded a fourth place finish in the 800, completing the race in a time of 2:30.68. She also notched an eight-place finish in the 200 with a time of 28.24.
Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) notched a second place finish in the 100 finals as she crossed the line in a time of 13.10 to pick up eight team points for York.
The 4x100 relay team finished as the runner-ups in the race as the foursome of Jones, Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban), Christina Sarver (Elkridge, Md./Mount de Sales Academy), and Dana Mangano (Westminster, Md./Westminster) combined to notch a time of 52.46.
In the field events, Mangano placed second in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump for the Spartans. Her distance in the long jump was 16' 7.25" while she cleared 32' 0.5" in the triple jump.
Miller recorded a third place finish in the pole vault, clearing a best height of 10' 1.25".
The Spartans return to action on April 5 at the Millersville Metrics Meet in Millersville, Pa.
