SELLINSGROVE, Pa. – Spending Valentines Day doing what they love the most, York women's track and field team competed at the Susquehanna Invite on Friday. The women were able to set many season and personal records in the final tune-up before the CAC Championships.
Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) led the distance squad with a school record performance in the mile. Delany went out hard with good group of runners to take 3rd place in the 8-lap event. Finishing in a group of her own Delany was still able to best her own school record time (5:22.26) from a year ago with a new record of 5:17.34. Taking 6th in the mile was Kacey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md. / Mercy) with a time of 5:37.58 and Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa. / Kennard-Dale) was able to place 9th with a time of 5:45.80.
Leading the way in the 800 was Delany with a 7th place finish in a time of 2:33.70 with Fogelsanger finishing in 2:37.53. In the 3,000, Alicia Dillman (Leola, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) was the only first place finisher for York on the day. The freshman was able to cruise to a first place finish with almost a 15 second advantage as she crossed the line in 11:20.33. Kathleen Cannon (Chapel Hill, N.C. / Chapel Hill) was able to grab a fourth place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 11:41.58.
In the field events, Abbey Rhodes (Hanover, Pa. / Hanover) was able to take 7th in the shot, with a toss of 35-3.25. Also competing in the shot put was Amanda Mackey (Whiteford, Md. / North Harford), who tossed the shot 30-11.75. Dana Mangano (Westminister, Md. / Westminister) leaped to her season best in the long jump with a 5th place jump of 15-6.25 on her second jump of the competition. Mangano also competed in the triple jump with a leap of 30-5.
In the sprints, Christina Sarver (Elkridge, Md. / Mount de Sales Academy) raced to a personal best and 5th place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.69. setting her own personal best in the 60 dash, Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) ran to a 4th place finish in 8.30 seconds. Courtney Rice (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) took a 4th place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:07.05 for a career best. Rice also raced to career best in the 200 with a time of 29.33.
York now looks to close out the indoor season as they prepare for the CAC Championships that will be hosted at Christopher Newport next weekend.
