Distance Squad Leads York Women to 6th Place

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In the first of two meets for the weekend, the York College women's track and Field team competed at the Collegeville classic on Friday afternoon.  The team was able to combine to cpature a 6th place finish out of 15 teams.

For the field events, Bethany Miller (York, Pa. / York Suburban) continued her top performances in the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet that placed her second in a judged result with four other jumpers. The height ties an indoor school record for York. Dana Mangano (Westminister, Md. / Westminister) placed in fourth in the triple jump with an impressive leap of 31-7.25. Abbey Rhodes (Hanover, Pa. / Hanover) threw her season best in the shot put with a heave of 11.49 meters. That throw established a new York College school record, besting the previous mark of 11.27 meters, a record already owned by Rhodes.

In the sprints, Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) led the way with a 9th place finish in the 60 dash with a time of 8.42. Freshman Courtney Rice (Frederick, Md. / Urbana) ran a strong race in the 400 and finished with a time of 1:09.12.  In the 200, Christina Sarver (Elkridge, Md. / Mount de Sales Academy) ran a quality race with a time of 30.72.

In the distance events York had a strong showing.  Emily Cronise (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) won the 800 by over 2 seconds with a blazing time of 2:24.11. The time established a new school record, besting the previous time of 2:25.04. Cronise was followed by teammate Jess Miller (York, Pa. / York Suburban), who placed 8th with a time of 2:32.16.  Miller also placed 3rd in the 3,000 with a time of 10:38.12 along with a 9th place finish in the mile with a time of 5:51.41.

The distance squad had many more top performances at the Collegeville classic. Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) and Alicia Dillman (Leola, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) finished 12 and 13 in the 3,000 with times of 11:20.38 and 11:30.37, respectively. Shannon Kuseryk (Ewing, N.J. / Ewing) and Kasey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md. / Mercy) teamed up in the 800 and they finished 13th and 15th just .4 second apart.

York returns to action tomorrow at the Lebanon Valley Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College. Live Results can be found here.
