Miller Crushes 5K Record; Spartan Women Finish Out Season at Swarthmore
CHESTER, Pa. – A handful of athletes from the women's track & field team competed on Monday evening at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier held at Widener University for one last chance to earn a spot to the Outdoor National Championships.
Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) continued to dazzle in the 5K. Miller shattered the school record in the 5K, one that she set just last month. Her previous record at the Greyhound Invitational stood at 18:26.38. This time, Miller raced to a spectacular 17:57.41 finish and came in 11th place overall. Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) also had a strong race. She finished in 19th place with a time of 18:41.00, a season best.
The top finisher of the day for the Green and White was Laura Rowlands (Dover, Pa./Dover). Rowlands broke the 11-meter mark in the triple jump with a recorded distance of 11.07 meters. In the high jump, Rowlands finished in seventh with a height of 1.58 meters.
Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale) also finished out her freshman season with the Spartans strong. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Roberts raced to seventh place with a time of 12:11.66.
Despite finishing the season out with some of their top performances, the Spartans had no women qualify for the NCAA's. Head Coach Erick Camodeca was impressed with the season his athletes put together and knows that next year will bring great things.
