SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's track & field squad had a strong showing during day one of the 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, MD.
The Spartans are sitting second in the five-team field as they accumulated 67 points during day one. They trail front-running Salisbury by 13 points while they lead third place Mary Washington by 32 points.
Miller won the 10,000-meter run, but just barely, as she edged teammate Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Narareth Academy) by just 0.03 seconds, a virtual photo finish. Miller recorded an official time of 41:30.35 while Danielewicz had a time of 41:30.38.
Rowlands earned a win in the high jump as the junior notched a winning height of 1.54 meters. Rowlands edged teammate Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban) as Miller placed second to earn her first second-team All-CAC honors. The win for Rowlands is her third straight in the high jump at the CAC outdoor championships.
Rowlands also earned a second-place finish in the triple jump as she finished with a best distance of 10.94 meters. Rowlands ended up 0.08 meters behind winner Tara Greco of Salisbury. Dana Mangano (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.41 to earn points for the Spartans.
Bethany Miller recorded an additional second place finish, as she was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing a best height of 3.04 meters.
Freshman Olivia Rehman (York, Pa./Central York) finished third in the javelin for the Spartans, earning six team points. Rehman posted a best throw of 34.89 meters in the event.
Senior Katie Shinn (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) gave the Spartans a strong performance in the hammer as she placed fourth with a distance of 33.27 meters.
The Spartans return to action for day two of the championships on Sunday morning when the championships resume at 10:00 am.
