SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The York College women's track and field team finished with strong performances on Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Track & Field Classic hosted by Shippensburg University.
By the end of the meet, many Spartans tied if not bested their personal bests.
Head Coach Erick Camodeca is pleased with the way his squad performed today.
"It was the best meet of the year for our entire team this year," said Camodeca. "It's a great way to head into the conference championship meet next weekend."
Freshman sprinter, Bria Jones (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), had a fantastic day on the track. In all three of her races, she improved upon her times. Jones' top finish of the day was in the 18th place, which she got in both the 100 and 400-meter dashes. In the 100, Jones finished with a time of 12.99 and in the 400 she clocked 1:03.83. Jones also earned 20th place in the 200 meters with a time of 26.97.
Rachel Berninger (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) bested her season personal record in the 800 with a time of 2:29.40. She ran a smart and solid run that helped to earn 21st place.
Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) continued to be a constant for the Spartans in distance. Miller finished in 10th with a time of 4:54.82 in the 1,500-meter run for a career best. Coming in a few runners behind her was Nicole Danielewicz (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) with a time of 5:04.16 and 17th place. Danielewicz's time bested her career record as well. She also took home a ninth place finish in the 3K with a time of 11:25.15.
Freshman, Bethany Miller (York, Pa./York Suburban), had a terrific day. Miller almost bested the school record in the pole vault after clearing 10'4. She finished in fifth place with a measured height of 3.16 meters.
The throwers also had some of their best distances today. Olivia Rehman (York, Pa./York Central) was the top Spartan finisher in the javelin, with a personal best throw of 36.93 meters. Molly Hoffer (Labanon, Pa./ELCO) also finished with a personal best in the event. Hoffer threw 18.90 meters for 34th place.
In the hammer throw, both Abbey Rhodes (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) and Katie Shinn (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) threw for career bests. Shinn earned herself 14th place with a throw of 37.14 meters, while Rhodes recorded a throw of 24.83 meters for 29th place.
The Spartans return to action Saturday at Salisbury University for the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. The meet is set to begin at 3:00 pm and will run through Sunday evening.
