DURHAM, N.C. – A number of York College women's track & field student-athletes competed at the 2012 Duke Invitational Friday afternoon in Durham, N.C. Mainly a Division I meet, the Spartans competed against individuals from Campbell, Coastal Carolina, and Toledo among other DI institutions.
Sophomore standout Laura Rowlands took 11th overall in the triple jump. The Spartan posted a trio of bounds totaling 10.97 meters (36' 0") as she competed against a number of Division I student-athletes.
Freshmen Deborah Fidele and Jasmine Smith each competed for the Green and White in the 200 and 400, respectively. Fidele's 27.46 in the developmental 200 allotted her an 11th-place mark as she came in 11th out of 26 finishers. Smith, in the developmental 400, ran to a 1:05.89 to take 18th.
York had a pair of 5k runners as Mandy Parshall and Nicole Danielewicz participated in two separate runs of the 5,000 meters. Parshall, competing in Section B, ran to a 19:16.56 while Danielewicz posted a 19:52.39 in Section C .
The Spartans return to competition on Saturday, albeit in split-squad. A contingent of York student-athletes is slated to compete at the second-day of the Duke Invitational while a number of Spartans are also set to attend the Goucher Classic at Goucher College in Towson.
