YORK, Pa. – York College freshman Jasmine Smith has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week in women's track & field. This marks Smith's first league honor and the third CAC weekly award for the Spartans during the 2011-2012 campaign (Laura Rowlands, Dec. 14 and Jan. 24).
Smith captured her first two collegiate triumphs on Friday evening, competing at the Crusader Indoor Invitational at Susquehanna University. The rookie garners this week's award courtesy of a first-place leap in the long jump with a leap of 5.17 meters (16-11 1/2). In addition to her victory in that event, that mark also proves a new Spartan record.
Smith also took top honors at the Crusader Indoor in the 60-meter dash, registering a time of 8.26 in the preliminaries (8.27 in the finals), and added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (28.15).
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, February 12, as they travel back to Susquehanna for an indoor meet beginning at 10:00 am.
