Spartans Win Two, Continue to Break Records at Crusader Indoor

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The York College women's track & field squad posted yet another terrific meet this season as they competed at the Susquehanna Crusader Indoor on Friday evening. The Spartans notched two individual triumphs and brought down three more school records.

Jasmine Smith had a banner day for the Green and White as she registered both victories and a school-best mark. In the long jump, the Spartan rookie catapulted herself to her first collegiate individual win as she registered a huge leap of 5.17 meters (16' 11.50") to set the new program record. Smith also won the 60-meter dash, finishing with meet-best times in both the preliminaries and finals. In the prelims, Smith ran to an 8.26, a result which gave her the top time entering the finals. She then won the 60-meter finals with an 8.27 performance. Smith also finished fourth overall in the 200, winning her heat with a 28.15.

In the weight throw, junior Katie Shinn established a new Spartan record tossing the weight 11.44 meters (37' 6.50"). That effort busted Shinn's own previous school record of 11.04 meters, set back in February 2011, and provided the junior with second place overall.

Chitom Henry added yet another new record to the York ledger as she ran to a school-best in the 60 hurdles. Her school-record time came in the preliminaries as she ran to a 10.66 mark as she qualified for the finals. In those finals, Henry finished fifth overall with an 11.23.

Laura Rowlands, who continues to put together strong performances, took second in a pair of events. In the long jump, Rowlands finished just behind teammate Smith as she recorded a 5.01-meter (16' 5.25") bound to tie for second. The second-year Spartan also registered second in the high jump with a result of 1.57 meters (5' 1.75"), her best mark of the 2011-2012 campaign.

Senior Mandy Parshall posted a pair of fourth-place times in the one-mile and 800-meter events. Parshall ran to a 5:35.87 in the mile while she crossed the 800 finish line in 2:32.82.

Nicole Seitz performed well in the pole vault for the York squad as she gets back into the competitive action. Her height of 2.45 meters (8' 0.50") provided the Spartan with a tie for fourth.

York's 4x400 relay squad of Deborah Fidele, Hannah Ritzman, Korissa Lincoln, Mandy Parshall ran well and placed fourth with 4:23.42

Misty Parshall (5:45.20), Nicole Danielewicz (5:50.33), and Caroline DeLany (5:50.36) each finished in the top-ten in the mile.

Off the track, Meaghan Jackson tossed the shot put 9.80 meters (32' 2.00") to finish sixth while Ashley Menniti went seventh with a result of 9.23 meters (30' 3.50"). Menniti also took eighth in the weight throw with a 9.30-meter (30' 6.25") distance.
