LANDOVER, Md. – The York College women's track & field team broke a school record and began to rev back up for the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships as the Spartans competed at the Indoor Terrapin Invitational on Saturday hosted by the University of Maryland – College Park. The Spartans finished tied for 18th on the day with three points.
Highlighting the meet for the Green and White, the distance medley relay team set a new Spartan record in the event. Anna Spaniol, Amy Stickle, Megan Phillips, and Nicole Danielewicz posted a 13:13.60 to take sixth place but more importantly smashed the previous program record of 13:21.93 set last February.
Individually, Jasmine Smith had a solid effort for York as she competed in a trio of events. The Spartan newcomer posted a 16' 1.75" leap in the long jump to take 18th while on the track Smith ran to an 8.31 in the 60-meter dash (37th) and a 28.09 in the 200 (41st).
Reigning CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year Laura Rowlands registered a 14th-place 34' 5.5" distance in the triple jump while she finished just one spot behind Smith in the long jump with a 15' 5.5" leap.
In the shot put, Meaghan Jackson tossed a distance of 32' 0.75" to place 21st.
Back on the track, Spaniol posted a 5:41.93 in the 1 mile run while Stickle ran to a time of 1:52.66 in the 600 (27th).
The Spartans return to action next Saturday as they travel to the Patriot Games at George Mason University, the site of next month's inaugural Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Patriot Games, slated for January 28, are scheduled for a 10:00 am start.
