York Posts Strong Effort; Wins Own Green & White Invitational

YORK, Pa. – Sophomore Tuesday Wilson and freshman Laura Rowlands set new records Saturday as the York College women's track & field team won the 2011 Green & White Invitational at York. The Spartans collected nine event victories as they posted 184 points in the nine-team meet.

Wilson established a new school record in the 10,000 meters. The sophomore distance runner opened the women's portion of the meet with a 42:00.00 time, breaking her own previous best by over 88 seconds.

Rowlands set a new stadium record in the triple jump as she posted an 11.07-meter distance. Rowlands would take a trio of first-place finishes on the day as she won the triple jump, the long jump (5.08 meters) and tie for the win in the high jump (1.55 meters).

That tie came to fellow Spartan Christy Guzenski as she also notched a 1.55-meter leap in the high jump.

On the track, senior standout Mandy Parshall captured two individual triumphs on Saturday, winning both the 800- and 5,000-meter events. Parshall crossed the finish line in the 800 in a time of 2:23.04 while securing the 5k in 19:36.67.

Kenyatta Redman, who has put together a strong effort in the sprints this season, ran to a first-place 27.62 in the 200. That time was over a half-second better than her closest competitor. Redman would team up with Brittany Alvarado, Rowlands, and Donteris Spence in the 4x100 as the group won the relay event with a 51.62.

Anna Spaniol secured the triumph in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 12:23.41. Megan Phillips and Allyson Montello each recorded wins of their own as Phillips was victorious in the 1500 while Montello snagged first in the 400 meters.

Corie Thompson registered a second-place time in the 5,000 meters with a 20:17.66 while Nicole Seitz was the runner-up in the pole vault.

Kate Paczynski's height of 1.50 meters in the high jump was good for third while Katie Shinn recorded third in the hammer throw with a 32.84-meter toss.

In addition to her 200-meter win, Redman was third in the 100 (13.08) while Spence was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200.

Spaniol collected a fourth-place 2:33.81 in the 800 meters.
