Spartans Finish Fourth at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. – The York College women's track & field team snagged third place out of nine teams Saturday with 105 points as they competed at the Goucher Track & Field Classic. The Spartans picked up numerous top-five finishes on the day including three individual wins.

Freshman standout Laura Rowlands continued her fantastic rookie campaign as she collected two of York's three victories. The talented Spartan took first in the high jump with a leap of 1.57 as well as winning the triple jump with a trio of bounds of 10.47 meters. Rowlands also captured third for the Spartans in the long jump with a distance of 4.81 meters.

Mandy Parshall, who also competed at the Towson Invitational on Saturday, posted a triumph in the 3,000 meters as she crossed the finish line at 11:19.43. During her time at Towson, Parshall competed against runners from such programs as Bucknell, Loyola (Md.), and Delaware. In the 800, Parshall took 14th with a 2:27.40 while she recorded a 4:52.55 in the 1500 to take a strong seventh-place overall finish.

Christy Guzenski collected a second-place spot for York at the Goucher Classic as she posted a 1.52-meter height in the high jump. Kate Paczynski would tie for fourth in the event with a jump of 1.47 meters.

The 4x400 crew of Anna Spaniol, Andrea Taylor, Megan Phillips, and Allyson Montello recorded second-place points for York while Katie Shinn's effort in the hammer throw resulted in a distance of 31.77 as she tied for third in the event.

In the 400-meter dash, Montello finished fourth with a 1:01.17. Caitlin Rizzardo took fourth in the pole vault, registering a 2.74-meter height.

Donteris Spence, another talented Spartan rookie, placed fifth in a pair of sprinting events. Her 27.78 time in the 200 resulted in fifth-place points while she also nabbed fifth in the 100-meter dash.

Sophomore Chitom Henry notched fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.60.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they host the Green & White Invitational. Start time in York is slated for 10:00 am.
