YORK, Pa. - York College women's track & field freshman Laura Rowlands has been chosen as the most recent Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week after her tremendous performance at the Mason Dixon Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday in Newport News, Va.
Rowlands was simply excellent as the rookie put together an incredible showing at the Mason Dixon Championships. She captured the triple jump title with a trio of bounds totaling 11.27 meters (36' 11.75") as that effort resulted in a new school record as well as a NCAA provisional cut.
Furthermore, Rowlands took second in the high jump with a leap of 1.61 meters (5' 3.25") and 12th in the long jump with a distance of 4.56 meters (14' 11.5").
For her efforts, Rowlands was named the Mason Dixon Conference Women's Field Athlete-of-the-Year for indoor track & field.
Rowlands and the Spartans now turn their attention to the outdoor season. The Green and White begin their 2011 home slate on Saturday, March 12, as they host the York Relays.
