Spartans Take Second at LVC Invitational
ANNVILLE, PA – Six individual first-place marks led the York College women’s track & field team to a runner-up overall finish at the Lebanon Valley Outdoor Invitational Friday afternoon in Annville, Pa. The Spartans nabbed 72 points, 18 behind the triumphant LVC squad, but well ahead of Gettysburg and Alvernia.
The Parshall sisters provided three of those six triumphs for the Spartan side. Senior Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) ran to a first-place collegiate time in the 5,000-meters with a 20:24.75. She also led off the Green and White’s second-place 1600 sprint medley squad (4:33.21).
The younger Mandy Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled), the reigning Capital Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year, registered two wins for the Spartans. The talented sophomore secured both the 800- and 1500-meter races with times of 2:32.04 and 5:15.31, respectively.
In the pole vault, outstanding junior and two-time CAC champion Caitlin Rizzardo (Jacobus, Pa./Dallastown) recorded the triumphant height of an even 10 feet while Jessie Mast (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May Regional) finished fourth.
A pair of throwing events added to York’s win total at the LVC Invitational. Junior Mackenzie Dolan (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) launched the hammer 103’ 4” for the victory while rookie Loreta Tonuzi (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) tossed the javelin 110’ 8” to capture her triumph.
Also in the javelin, newcomers Courtney Lapp (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and Rebecca Homan (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) threw 94’ 9” and 93’ 6” to take second and third, respectively, in the eight-participant event.
Dolan would take second in the discus (79’ 9”) and third in the shot put (30’ 2”).
Kate Paczynski (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) tallied second-place points in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 9.75” while Megan Verde (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) jumped to a fourth-place finish (4’ 7.75”) for the Spartans. Ally Montello (Adamstown, Md. /Urbana) finished fourth in the both the long (14’ 7.25”) and triple jump (31’ 3.25”).
Back on the track, Anna Spaniol (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) nabbed second in the 800 with a 2:32.46 while Gabrielle Harbin (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) finished just behind Spaniol with a 2:33.75.
Corie Thompson (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Chitom Henry (Philadelphia, Pa./Alexis I. Dupont) each finished third in their respective events. Thompson’s came in the 5,000 meters as she posted a 21:22.68 while Henry recorded an 18.54 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Laura Zimmerman (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro), Elexis Engram (York, Pa./William Penn), Montello, and Verde combined on York’s 4x100 squad to register a 54.07. The 1600 sprint medley relay, Melody Parshall, Zimmerman, Engram, and Montello, posted a 4:33.21.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, March 24, when they come back home as hosts of a tri-meet. York will welcome Gettysburg and Messiah to the Spartan track for a 3:00 p.m. tilt.
