York Competes at Gettysburg Quad
GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College
women’s track & field team competed at the Gettysburg
Quad Meet Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans went up against Columbia
Union, Messiah, and the host Bullets.
As has been her theme all season,
sophomore pole-vaulter Caitlin Rizzardo (Jacobus,
Pa./Dallastown) put in yet another exceptional performance
in her signature event. Rizzardo cleared ten feet to capture the
win and the first-place points for the Spartan side, as she now
gears up to defend her 2008 Capital Athletic Conference title
Sophomore thrower Mackenzie Dolan
(Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) picked up a pair of
wins for the Green and White in the shot put and hammer throw.
Dolan notched a first-place finish in the shot put with a toss of
30’ 9” in the event. The sophomore found a similar
result in the hammer throw collecting first-place points with a
107’ 6” launch.
Teammate Caitlin Mahan (Delran,
N.J./Delran) placed in the top-five in each of the four
throwing events. The sophomore’s highest finish came in the
discus where she posted a 93’ 2” distance to record
second. Mahan tossed the hammer 96’ 2” and the javelin
88’ 8” to take third and fourth, respectively. She also
grabbed fifth with a 28’ 0.75” throw in the shot
put.
The Spartans’ throwing unit
added three more top-five places. Danielle Tague (Stowe,
Pa./Pottsgrove) secured third in the javelin with a
90’ 11” throw while Laura Zimmerman’s
(Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) 86’ 3” distance
was good for fifth. Katie Margelot (Glen Rock,
Pa./Susquehannock) posted a fifth-place finish of her own
in the discus with an 85’ 9” result.
Including Rizzardo’s
performance, York tallied four top-fives in the field events.
Alaina Smelko (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney)
completed the triple jump in third with a distance of 32’
5” while Ally Montello (Adamstown, Md.
/Urbana) lept 13’ 11.75” in the long jump to
grab fifth. Kate Paczynski (Marriottsville,
Md./Liberty) cleared a height of 4’ 6” to
record her fifth-place finish in the high jump.
On the track, the Green and White
came away with four top-three finishes. Melody Parshall
(Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) turned-in York’s top
placement with a 20:04.78 time in the 5,000 to finish second.
The Spartans 4x100 squad of
Elexis Engram (York, Pa./William Penn),
Lauren DeSimone (Shrewsburg, Pa./Susquehannock),
Terah Bloemer (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale),
and Zimmerman posted a third-place finish in the race. The team
crossed the line in a time of 53.37.
The 4x400 race also resulted in a
third-place spot for the Green and White. Montello, Anna
Spaniol (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), Zimmerman, and
Mandy Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) combined
for a time of 4:34.09.
Bloemer grabbed an individual third
in the 100 with a time of 14.22. Zimmerman (14.30), Engram (14.37),
and DeSimone (14.55) followed Bloemer coming in fifth, sixth, and
seventh respectively.
Zimmerman posted a solid meet as she
also finished fourth in the 200 (29.15) to go along with her other
sprint work and throwing success.
In the 100 hurdles, Jamie Tyson
(Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) took fourth (18.01) while Katrina
Cooper (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) finished in fifth
(18.33).
Mandy Parshall’s 5:18.10 was
good for fifth in the 1,500 while Spaniol posted a sixth-place mark
in the 800 with a time of 2:37.06.
The Spartans now set their sights on
the 2009 CAC Championships where Rizzardo and Mahan (javelin) will
look to defend their 2008 titles. A host of Spartans will look for
podium-worthy finishes as the championships are slated for a 9:00
am start on Saturday, April 18, in Fredericksburg, Va.
