GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College women’s track & field team competed at the Gettysburg Quad Meet Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans went up against Columbia Union, Messiah, and the host Bullets.
As has been her theme all season, sophomore pole-vaulter Caitlin Rizzardo (Jacobus, Pa./Dallastown) put in yet another exceptional performance in her signature event. Rizzardo cleared ten feet to capture the win and the first-place points for the Spartan side, as she now gears up to defend her 2008 Capital Athletic Conference title

Dolan notched a first-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 30’ 9” in the event. The sophomore found a similar result in the hammer throw collecting first-place points with a 107’ 6” launch.
Teammate Caitlin Mahan (Delran, N.J./Delran) placed in the top-five in each of the four throwing events. The sophomore’s highest finish came in the discus where she posted a 93’ 2” distance to record second. Mahan tossed the hammer 96’ 2” and the javelin 88’ 8” to take third and fourth, respectively. She also grabbed fifth with a 28’ 0.75” throw in the shot put.
The Spartans’ throwing unit added three more top-five places. Danielle Tague (Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove) secured third in the javelin with a 90’ 11” throw while Laura Zimmerman’s (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) 86’ 3” distance was good for fifth. Katie Margelot (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) posted a fifth-place finish of her own in the discus with an 85’ 9” result.
Including Rizzardo’s performance, York tallied four top-fives in the field events. Alaina Smelko (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) completed the triple jump in third with a distance of 32’ 5” while Ally Montello (Adamstown, Md. /Urbana) lept 13’ 11.75” in the long jump to grab fifth. Kate Paczynski (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) cleared a height of 4’ 6” to record her fifth-place finish in the high jump.
On the track, the Green and White came away with four top-three finishes. Melody Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) turned-in York’s top placement with a 20:04.78 time in the 5,000 to finish second.
The Spartans 4x100 squad of Elexis Engram (York, Pa./William Penn), Lauren DeSimone (Shrewsburg, Pa./Susquehannock), Terah Bloemer (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale), and Zimmerman posted a third-place finish in the race. The team crossed the line in a time of 53.37.
